The Okinawan Karate Center offers two distinct styles of Okinawan Karate: Uechi-Ryu Karate-do and Seibukan Shorin-Ryu Karate-do.
Uechi-Ryu is a traditional style of Okinawan Karate. Uechi-Ryu means the "Style of Uechi" and was named after the founder of the style, Kanbun Uechi, after his death in 1948. Originally called Pangai-noon, which translates to English as "half-hard, half-soft", the style features unique techniques such as circle blocks, one knuckle punches, thumb strikes, and toe kicks. Body conditioning plays a key role in developing the karate student.
Seibukan Shorin-Ryu Karate is built on a relentless practice of kihon (basics) and kata (forms). The basics build a strong karate body for students of all ages and physical abilities. In Seibukan, we do not change the karate for our body, but focus on developing our body for karate. The training is ideal for both men and women because effectiveness is based on speed, precision, and agility, rather than physical size.
Train hard and train often. The secret to karate is in the effort.
